Welcome to My World

My name is Rachelle.

…and this is my blog.

When I was in the fifth grade, I decided that I wanted to be a computer programmer.  A few decades later, that is still my true passion.  Along the way,  I have entertained and pursued a variety of other hobbies and dreams.  I have nearly achieved everything that I had ever hoped for, and then some.  Now, I am just attempting to make sense of having so many wonderful things in my life all at the same time.

It is not always easy.

Nerd.  Mom.  Introvert. Wife. Daughter. Friend. Programmer. Gamer. Farmer’s Daughter. Sister. Aunt. Fitness Instructor. Dance Instructor. Donut Lover. Tea Drinker. Book Reader.

On several occasions, my husband has nicknamed me “Bones” after the TV series character.  On so many levels, this is not far from who I am.  I endeavor to become better, to become more.  A lot of time I am successful.  Sometimes I am not.

One goal is to share my experiences so that others may not feel as alone as I do on occasion.  Another goal is to provide a word smithing outlet where I can just be me and express my achievements and exasperations–whether anyone reads it or not.  It is not a goal to air personal issues that are best solved at home.  It is a goal to find humor in the struggles of the day, to lighten the load with laughter.

Finally, I hope to share vignettes and and anecdotes about what it is like to be a female in a predominantly male career field, what it is like to be married to someone who truly understands and accepts you in all your nerdiness and geekdom, how I cope with being an introvert and a mother (which are not always compatible), and just general commentary on being a farmer’s daughter who went to a high school for gifted education and achieved two college degrees in technology then went around the world twice and managed a ballroom dance studio for five years while going to college for another degree in education before finding the love of her life and having two point five kids as she settled into a job writing code.
